DIY face mask – Turmeric, Honey and oatmeal mask

As you all know, I’m a firm believer in the self care movement. Taking time out to care for yourself and put all the love you give to others right back into your own self. I make it a point to meditate, groom and relax at least twice a week. As the saying goes, you can’t pour from and empty cup.

One of the ways in which I refill my cup is by giving myself regular spa treatments. Sometimes, I don’t have time to go to the spa, but that’s not an excuse. I make my own treatments from ingredients in my pantry.

Here’s my recipe for a diy face, lip and hand mask that turns into a scrub (2 for 1 special). You can easily make an awesome face mask at home, with ingredients you most probably already have in your kitchen: just oats, turmeric, honey and a little water!

If you don’t already have turmeric, I highly recommend getting some – not only is it a total superfood, it is also a great remedy for many ailments, including inflammation and skin problems.

Awesome benefits of This mask:

Turmeric reduces the appearance of acne scars
Treats acne (due to it’s antibacterial properties)
Balances out oily skin
Helps even out skin tone and treats dark spots
Calms red, blotchy skin with it’s anti-inflammatory properties
Turmeric is an antioxidant, which reduces damage to skin from sun and free radicals

Honey is naturally antibacterial, so it’s great for acne treatment and prevention. Aging: Full of antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging. Complexion boost: It is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow

Oatmeal is an amazing moisturizer, contains 18 amino acids, an exfoliant, is hypo allergenic, which means it’s good for people who suffer from allergies. It has good soothing properties.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup oats
1.5 tsp turmeric powder
4 tablespoons honey
water (optional)
Coconut oil (optional)

Grind (in a pestle and mortar) the oats and turmeric until it becomes a coarse powder consistency.
In a mixing bowl, stir together the oat and turmeric powder mix with some honey.
Stir in enough water to make it a spreadable consistency, about half a cup.
Using your fingers or the back of a spoon, smear the mixture all over your face, careful to avoid your eyes.
Leave on until it dries, which is about 15 mins. Wash off and moisturize with Glycerine and rose water.

**Tip
Be sure to do this in a quiet and well ventilated room. Turn on soothing sounds, light a lovely candle and put your feet up.
